TLC IN A COLUMN - New Year Resolutions

Wishing you all a happy new year.

I was going to drone on about New Year's Resolutions as we all do, & I will get to that, but first I'd like to tell you what inspired me to change tack.

A relatively new client of mine, having been for 2 sessions, has been a complete inspiration & has turned her life around after many years of being in an unhealthy rut. After a Chinese foot massage, she felt wonderful & had time to reflect on her hopes & dreams. She decided it was time to make the switch.

When I saw her the second time she had completely changed. She had lost a stone, was happy, fulfilled & had already achieved far more than she envisioned...she has stacks more energy, & what's more, because she had done so well & was eating good, healthy enjoyable food, she feels she was less likely to indulge too much over the festive period & undo all her good work.

The bottom line is this, she made a resolution to change her life in many ways for the better at a time that was best for her; when she was ready. Because of this, she is in control & therefore, I am convinced, most likely to keep with it.

So even if you don't feel like making any New Year's Resolutions just yet, no need to wait until next New Year, set your own date, make some goals & stick to them. If like this lady you would like some professional support, come & visit us at Half Moon, where there are health therapists & fitness trainers to help you on the road to a healthy more successful you. We don't work with the lady above..we are merely the jump leads to help you physically or mentally heal yourself..& the conscience to help you keep going on the right track..oh Ok...& you do feel magic when you walk out.

In the meantime, if this is the right time for you, here are a few suggestions:

•  take up some exercise, like walking round our beautiful cliffs or attending the yoga or kickboxing classes in the village hall.

•  Aim to drink 3-5 pints of water a day...herbal teas count towards this.

•  Aim to eat between 5 & 7 portions of fresh fruit & veg per day. Try real juices & sugar free smoothies to make it easier.

•  Cut down on sugar & remember to check your food labels for hidden sugars which is why we eat 20 times more sugar than we did 50 years ago.

•  Smile more often...but make sure it lights up your eyes to get those happy hormones released for real.

•  Walk whenever you can, it keeps you & the planet more healthy..

•  if you don't already, start recycling. The bumper box scheme makes it convenient & the village hall always welcomes newspapers in their bank which goes towards their coffers.

•  Composting all your kitchen waste saves on landfill, & saves you money as it provides wonderful free compost for your garden & reduces the costs we are charged for landfill. We are running out of landfill which releases 1.5 million tonnes of methane into the atmosphere each year further contributing to global warming.

•  Use bottles n jars as mini cloches in your garden/allotment.

•  Re-use padded envelopes & boxes to send parcels. It keeps costs down & saves on landfill... pass them onto someone who can make use of them..people pass me their boxes & bubble wrap to reuse when I send my TLC to customers by post.

•  Pop shelves over your radiators to reflect heat back into your rooms.

•  Pop tin foil behind radiators for the same reason.

•  If practical, direct your washing machine out pipe into a pipe that leads into a flower bed that can manage the water. We use sedge grass which absorbs the excess water & filters the waste naturally. Remember to use an eco friendly washing detergent though like Ecover, or your own home-made version.more about that in the spring.

•  Use muslin squares instead of cotton wool. For your beauty routine. When grubby, pop in the wash & re-use.

•  If you are sitting with your engine idling & are likely to be sat for more than 20 seconds, switch your engine off. You will save money, & look after your planet. Any shorter than 20 seconds & its not worth switching off as it takes more fuel to restart again.

• Avoid accepting carrier bags. They deplete oil resources, threaten wildlife, & only 7% are recycled. They cost money to dispose of, take 100 years to decompose, affecting our health by releasing hormone mimicking xeno-oestrogens which end up in our water supplies & affect our chemistry adversely.
